Shirley is completely lovable. I adore her slightly cranky way of telling a story, I am amused by how easily distracted she is, and I love her self awareness. I am in awe of the fact that she’s 100. Shirley needs to write a skincare blog.
She reminds me of many wonderful elderly New York women I’ve known
over the years. Take a look.
I wish we could get a better look at the cartoons and sketches Moe sent her during the war. It blew me away that on her 31st birthday, she sent him a triptych of pictures of herself, and he sent her back a drawing of himself gazing at them. Being loved is a wonderful thing. Knowing you’re loved is even better. It really seems like these two got it right.
I’ve long been a fan of the Humans of New York photo blog, and I’m very excited about the video series, of which this is the first installation. I have a hunch they’ll be making more appearances here.
