Meet Iain Armitage. He is the son of producer Lee Armitage and singer/actor Euan Morton, best known for his role as Boy George in the musical, Taboo. A very talented guy, Euan is especially beloved in our house for singing our favorite version of our favorite song, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. When I played it in our house while writing this post, as usual, we both cried a little, then sang along very badly, then laughed at ourselves a bit.
Iain and his lovely mom, Lee, go to a lot of Broadway shows. He gets to see all the greats (and meet some of them!), presumably thanks to his talented and well-known parents. And he (adorably, but very seriously) reviews them all. The shows, not his parents. Understandably, Himself wanted to see Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig (who doesn’t?). Imagine how put out he was when he was told it wasn’t age-appropriate. (Did I mention Iain is six?) Actually, you don’t have to imagine his outrage. Here it is, in living color. It’s very fortunate this precocious young man isn’t my child. I don’t think I’d be able to stand firm in the face of such precious resolve and such solid arguments. Hang tough, Lee!
You might want to browse the rest of his reviews and a few of his performances, too. Oh, and get used to the name Iain Armitage. You’re going to hear it again.

How serendipitous I was just waffling over getting tickets to Hedwig. In honour of Iain, I will choose another offering. Something off-Broadway, I think. As often happens, this post made my day. 🙂

How funny! Honestly, if there’s any way for you to go see Hedwig, you should do it. NPH is ridiculously awesome.
Thrilled to have made your day!

I was dying to go. However… we are in NY next week for only 1.7 days and given all of the riduculous expenses I’ve incurred this year (which is only half over so the best could be yet to come – case in point, that trip is costing me over $5K for medical reasons), I decided on something less damaging to my credit card but hopefull still fun – Here Lies Love.

Oh, the David Byrne production at the Public! Brilliant! That should be tremendous fun. Very jealous!
Maybe next time you’re in town for a little longer, I can buy you a thank you drink!

Holy cow this kid is killing me! I don’t think I had even heard the word appropriate when I was six, let alone pronounce it! And Hallelujah is a popular one in our house too, especially when Jon Bon Jovi is singing it. Yum!

His review of Waiting for Godot was better than my college paper on theatre of the absurd.

He really is fantastic, isn’t he? I love that he correctly pronounces Godot, and I love that “SirIan” has become a single word.

Hahahaha! OMG – I so LOVE this kid! Really, really digging his angry-monster voice when he’s lamenting how hard it is to be a 6-y-o kid who loves theater. What’s also cracking me up – he’s seen Wig in a Box! (I almost thought he said “Dick in a Box” and I died a little bit until I Googled “Wig in a Box” just to make sure). This one is older than his years and his mother is lucky I don’t babysit him since I’d probably laugh at everything he says. I’m going to have to check him out… 🙂

He’s a pip, for sure. I haven’t met him in person, but both his parents are fabulously talented, so it’s no surprise he has theatrical superpowers. Can’t wait to see what he does with himself.
