texting 1Perhaps the most successful mixed marriage of all time, this is the genius Tumblr “If Paintings Could Text.” The premise is bizarre yet very simple. They pair iconic paintings by the great masters with thought bubbles bearing Texts From Last Night-style captions, and the results are hilarious. There are a few hundred up on the site, so if you like these, go look at the rest!

Post script: I am off, gallivanting with the girls for a couple of days, so these next few entries are going to be brief, but I hope that the subjects of these OBTs are good enough that my brevity won’t be an issue.

  2. Great twist on a classic idea.
Even when you’re away you post? That’s dedication! Even scheduling them is impressive.

  3. Bwah ha ha ha! These are superb. Thank you so much for the chuckle – and for the inspiration. I am planning to teach my kids a bit of History of Art this summer and I think it might be a fun exercise to get them to add speech bubbles to paintings. So long as they don’t then do the same thing in art galleries. That would be frowned upon.
