York Wallcoverings’ Peek-a-Boo Picture Gallery Wallpaper. AllModern

When I happened upon this beautiful wallpaper, it sent me down a black, white, & gray rabbit hole. There’s a lot of good stuff out there! Therefore, I’m giving myself free reign to include way more pictures than usual.

Today, I’m exploring some grayscale design inspiration (with the occasional pop of color because I’m not completely without an inner child or one of the Munsters). Personally, when I think of most of the black, white, and gray rooms I’ve seen, I remember them being either very stark or very fussy. But I’m more interested in mixing together styles in unexpected ways. Eclectic is definitely the key for my living space.

After perusing the stuff I’ve posted below, you should also go check out fellow blogger Camilla Hennessy-Jackson’s post “Interior Inspo.” It’s full of beautiful things, and I only barely resisted stealing from her!

I can see myself spending loads of time straightening and rearranging the pillows, but if you don’t suffer from such compulsions, this would be a great-looking sectional. Sold on Yahoo!

Thanks to my allergies (and the low height of my ceilings), I usually cover my windows with blinds rather than softer coverings like curtains. These, however, are an absolute knockout! Sold by Overstock

I think the desk chair crowds it all a little, but I nonetheless appreciate the design choices. It would probably have photographed better from a higher angle. Atmosphere Interior Design Inc. on houzz

I don’t usually go in for chandeliers. I like them in theory, but I feel like they almost never look right. The clear ones are usually too pretentious, the colored ones are a bit too twee for me, and the black ones mostly seem cartoon gothy. However, I actually think this grey glass one is kind of badass: Houzz

  2. unique ideas but I prefer some colour to brighten my day.

  3. Nice collection of images. I definitely like the idea of a pop of punchy colour among all the grey /monochrome in the larger rooms. I’ve seen grey done really badly, where the room feels like you are trapped inside a cardiac arrest, but I think it can also look very classy. I’m actually strongly considering painting our hallways and downstairs WC grey if I can find a grey that is both light and warm, like a robust dove grey. I tend to use my hallway walls as my art gallery so I think they grey could be a good backdrop for an eclectic group of framed artworks. But we shall see.

However, Morticia it is, I’m liking the idea of a canopy chair now that you’ve shown me it. I need a chair for my library corner and that would block everyone out. I could retreat into my chair cave with a book and pretend my husband and kids don’t exist for a short while.

  4. I love black white and grey but the punches of colour (I share your love of the single foo dog) are what make the grayscale pop. Even some of these are too busy for me (or too annoying – the sectional with alternating cushions would drive me batty, too).

  5. I didn’t think I was going to like the black, white and grey as I thought it might be a little too stark. I was pleasantly surprised after looking at these pictures though! I particularly liked the ones where one brightly coloured piece was incorporated into the room. Pretty stunning!

  8. Hi there, like you I love a splash of colour, the purple chair and the blue one are gorgeous. I often find black and white and grey are cold tones or appear very controlled and that’s not me. but some of those wallpaper are just delicious. great blog

    • Thank you very much! I know what you mean about the palette seeming cold and controlled, but it just forces you to get creative with how you jazz it up. Unexpected textures, really unique pieces, and those pops of color can do wonders. Glad you stopped by!
