Dr. Who? No, Dr. Woo!

The New York Times has dubbed tattooist Brian Woo (A.K.A. Dr. Woo) the “Tattoo Artist for the Hollywood Set.” He’s stuck his needle in loads of famous flesh including Drake, Ellie Goulding, and Cara Delevingne (see “Poetic License and the House of Chanel“), and his waiting list at the famous L.A. tattoo joint, Shamrock Social Club, is many months long. His single-needle, fine-line style is captivating Hollywood, and he’s got me sold, too.

I’ve written about other tattoo artists, but this guy’s work is so pure and timeless, he might have stolen first place in my heart. I got lost for hours in his Instagram account, and for good reason. His creativity knows no bounds. His beautiful illustrations remind me a bit of Victorian etchings, and his style suits me right down to the ground. I would be willing to fly to L.A. just to get one of his pieces (and I’m not L.A.’s biggest fan).

I hope you enjoy his lovely work as much as I have.

  1. They are so detailed, and some of them even look 3 dimensional! I love them 🙂

  2. There is always just something I LOVE about those “traditional” swallows – his take is fantastic! But that hamsa hand… wow. 🙂

  3. I love the galaxy…. I do wonder if he’s into pointilism, because he’d rock that

  4. His tattoos really do look like copperplate etchings. I don’t think I could work in ink that delicately and precisely on paper let alone on flesh.

  5. I do not like tattoos, just a matter of personal taste, but wow these are pretty amazing. Real works of art.

  6. Thinking about getting my first tattoo this year and LOVE his style!! Even the thread and needle looked so cool 🙂 – Karen

  7. Oh wow! That puts the ‘art’ into body art. So delicate and intricate. You’d have to have somewhere where you could just stare at it for hours.

  8. These are beautiful! I am especially fond of the sliver of moon with another moon hanging from it. So delicate; so pretty.

  9. A bird on the hand is worth 5 origami on strings. I love body art until the work ages…. or the displayer goes through some significant weight changes……
