Unforgettable

“Body acceptance is not about glorifying obesity. It’s about fucking loving your body at whatever size you are.” – Mary Lambert

I decided that since this is NYC pride week, my music choice needed to be an artist from the LGBT community. My decision was an easy one.

Mary Lambert burst on the scene in October of 2012 with her featured spot on Mackelmore’s insanely-popular “Same Love.” Lambert’s beautiful voice on “I can’t change, even if I tried. Even if I wanted to” can still give me goosebumps. I’d been meaning to look her up and get to know her music better, but I’m a little ashamed to admit it’s taken me this long to get around to it. Now I wish I’d looked her up sooner. In the beautiful track below, she channels my beloved Imogen Heap for a melodic electronic recording that will stick with you.

And though I’m not entirely certain which came first, her riff in the Mackelmore song or her original song “She Keeps Me Warm,” I thoroughly love both versions!

And finally, the video and lyrics for her single “Body Love,” is definitely worth your time. Her slam poetry is every bit as good as her music!
