Serbian artist Endre Penovác is clearly a cat person. I came across his series of black ink and watercolor paintings of felines and was immediately struck by how perfectly he’s captured their attitudes, their physicality, and their moods. This man, thought I, has cats.
His technique sounds fascinating, and I wish I could watch him in action. He first paints the outline, the dark space, and then drips water on the painting until it forms the shapes and textures he’s looking for. He doesn’t just paint cats, but I think I like his cat paintings best.
