This artist is clearly a cat person. I came across this series of black ink and watercolor paintings of felines and was immediately struck by how perfectly the artist captured their attitudes, their physicality, and their moods. This artist, thought I, has cats. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find (or read) the artist’s name. That didn’t stop me from celebrating their glorious work, though.
According to Google Translate, the artist’s technique sounds fascinating, and I wish I could watch them in action. They first paint the outline, the dark space, and then they drip water on the painting until it forms the shapes and textures they’re looking for. If only there were a name…

He is very good 😀
I feel sure that the last one is a dog…

Not just because I have cats….yeah, because I have cats–I love these! His process is pretty darn amazing…and even the dog looks great. You find the coolest stuff, Donna.

Someone shared these images with me a few months ago. Knowing I’m an ink artist, they thought I would be interested in the technique. I have not yet attempted the experiment but I’m pretty sure I could not achieve results like these. The wonder of these works of art is that they manage to look at once accidental and out of control but also measured and precise.

Exactly! Controlled chaos, just like cats. They make everything look so casual, but I aways have a sneaking suspicion they plan every move.

I think this man definitely has cats, and I love his work because it’s beautiful, and yes, because I have cats!

I am jealous. Our Big Boy died a year and a half ago, but we have to wait to get another animal until our house has been raised, and that might be another year. Argh!

I look forward to hearing about the day when you can have a cat again, Donna. We love our to bits. Guess that’s pretty obvious. 🙂

I love these! The dog you included is every bit is great as the cats if you ask me. I too would love to see the artist in action. The finished product are whimsical and yet determined – not unlike their subjects!

I envision a black Puli as the subject for the dog painting. I tried to insert a link to an image of one but my phone is not cooperating.

Never really been a “cat person” but these opened my eyes to their beauty purely as animals. Thanks.

They really are stunning in their lines and their confidence. And I have truly loved the ones to which I belonged.
