Mad as a Hatter

Sometimes I stumble upon an Etsy seller whose merchandise is so imaginative, so joyfully nutty, so wildly entertaining, that I can’t resist featuring them. Meet my newest obsession, BubblesAndFrown. Not only are these creations extreme in their creativity (and fairly reasonably priced, considering what must go into them), they’re also vegan!

Designer Sylva Hattington (possibly not her real name) (A.K.A. Miss Slinky Orngina Montgomery Vaughn-Phuckake) (almost definitely not her real name) is as generous with her time as she is with her talent. In addition to making these fantastical creations, she also teaches classes (in L.A.) and loans out her amazing pieces for charity photo shoots:

“Celebrate something beautiful today! Hidden Warriors is an amazing project that empowers woman with cancer by giving them the opportunity to do a super rad photo shoot in a super rad headdress, all the while enjoying art, music, power posing, and delicious foods! I love this project so much and had the honor of doing a big ol’ shoot with them back in LA. They are doing an Indigogo campaign and any amount of money will help the project grow, even if it’s only $5. If you make a donation of over $30 please message me and I’ll give you a special 10% off coupon from my shoppe.” Sylva H.

I want every last one of these headdresses, even though I couldn’t stand up in my house in any of them!

  6. Wow! Such incredible creations. I think these come under the wearable sculpture label. I love the wit, imagination, camp glitz and opulence of each head dress.

  8. My first thought was I want a lifestyle that would justify these hats. But I had second thoughts. There are some closer to my lifestyle on her page. Maybe one of those could be my gateway hat.

  9. BTW, British royalty gets most of the attention when it comes to hats but Queen Mathilde of Belgium is becoming one of my favorites. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/queen-mathildes-national-day-hats/
