I’ve never seen portraits more expressive or compelling than those taken by Lithuanian photographer Raggana. I stumbled upon (her? his? Let’s assume the photographer is a woman for the sake of the post) her photographs while looking for animal photography. No idea why her work came up, but boy, am I ever glad it did. The first portrait above stopped me in my tracks. I dropped everything else and started hunting her down.

She grew up surrounded by nature, and she says it has colored the way she sees and photographs the world around her. But it’s not the nature photography that’s got me riveted, nor is it her (admittedly stunning) fashion photography. It’s her faces. There’s something so intimate and intense about them. It feels like we can see through her subjects to their core. Either that, or her models are really good actors. Either way, they’re really unforgettable images. I hope they haunt you (in a good way) like I know they will haunt me.
