Meet Goliath, the calf with an identity crisis. He was rescued from a slaughterhouse by Danville, California, high school senior Shaylee Hubbs. When she first saw him, Goliath wasn’t thriving and could barely stand. Hubbs took him home to her family’s ranch, moved him into her old playhouse in the back yard, and nursed him back to health. That’s when Goliath, now a healthy 8-week-old calf, decided he didn’t want to cow anymore.

“I’m pretty sure he thinks he’s a dog. He is being raised with our three dogs, and he’s around them every day. They chase and play together, he watches how they eat their dog food and drink water from their bowls and copies them and lays in their dog beds. He even loves scratches on his neck around his ear.” -Shaylee Hubbs

Not only does Goliath hang outside with the dogs, he’s figured out how to get in the house (and on the couch), too. He’s not just a dog. He’s a BAD dog. I can’t really blame him or young Shaylee, either.

Goliath is pretty cute. It will be interesting to see how it goes when he’s grown, though. Maybe he’ll move into the house full time like Dr. Arndt’s horse, Nasar. It does look like fun, but our house is way too tiny for anything that size. Maybe we could adopt a penguin instead. Honey, I can I have a penguin? Pleeeease . . .
