Etsy’s recommendations strike gold again! These are without a doubt the most beautiful paper dolls I’ve ever clapped eyes on. These beauties are the creations of mother-daughter team, Jackie and Meghan Wampler. Daughter Meghan does the design and mom Jackie handles the business end of things. Their Etsy store, FiveAndNineteen, is chock-full of gorgeous jointed paper doll kits you put together yourself.
Their style is certainly retro, but their faces and expressions are very contemporary. The combination is really striking and quite lovely. And they’re affordable enough to incorporate into the wrapping of a special gift. I am absolutely in love!

These are fabulous! I actually never played with paper dolls as a kid. In fact, I once infuriated my mother by trading a book of paper dolls I had just bee gifted for a tub of (yet more) marbles. However, my kids and I often make split pin puppets. Such fun. I will need to show them these in advance of us making another batch, see if it inspires them. I must go and look at their Etsy store now.

They’re pretty remarkable. Beautiful designs, and such interesting use of articulation! I’m not surprised that you make puppets with your kids. Next life, I think I want to come back as one of your brood. They have the most fun!

Aw, what a lovely compliment. We do have lots of fun, that’s true, but it is also the case that I do not blog about the number of times I have shrieked at them each morning to get their little butts out of bed or the duration of screen time bans for bad behaviour. It isn’t all fun and games and scissors and glue, believe me.
PS The best set of split pin puppets we have made so far were a group of gladiators and a lion, tiger and rhino.

I have the pictures somewhere on a hard drive. It was part of a summer project we were doing on ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt.

Maybe ahead of this summer’s project, I will do a little review of projects past and can rake out the photo files.
