French music artist Hiérophante created a video for his song Clichés that explores the repetitive nature of the photos posted on social networks. He cut together thousands of selfies, pics of food, pole dancing (yes, pole dancing), tattoos, celebrities, nail art, and other oft-posted images to illustrate just how un-original most of the content on social networks really is. It’s clever as hell, and it manages to be simultaneously hypnotic, depressing, and a little funny. Definitely worth a watch.

Brilliant. We’re all just an Instagram away from being Shutterstock.

Phew! I got to the end of that video and was very relieved that the only one of those photo cliches I have ever been guilty of is taking the photo of the plate of food. In my (feeble) defence, I only do that when we are on vacation and I am eating local cuisine I have never had before so that it forms part of a travelogue.

Food is fair game. I’m just glad I don’t have one of those tattoos!

I liked it, but I must admit that the photos of guns scare me a bit.

Here’s a thought–can’t we just make a wide (or whatever you would call it from top to bottom as opposed to side to side) lens that way we wouldn’t have to have the camera in the shot?

I’d rather see the camera and lose the photographer.
