Numbered Al Hirshfeld print of Marilyn Monroe sold by BlkBttrflyDsgns

Oh, how I love this Signed Numbered Al Hirshfeld print of Marilyn Monroe sold by BlkBttrflyDsgns

Et·som·ni·a (/etˈsämnēə/), noun, 1. a sleep disorder caused by obsessive Etsy browsing. 2. The surprising arrival of weird handmade merchandise ordered when one is only half conscious. (True story.) 3. An excuse for me to be an obnoxious, snarky New Yorker once per week.

I hit 4,000 followers this week! In honor of my 4,000 closest friends (individual results may vary), I thought I’d take a look at $4K items on Etsy. Why not? Of course, it wouldn’t be Etsy if there weren’t at least a few tragedies and nutty items, but I was mostly very pleasantly surprised by what I found!

In some cases, the hefty price tag is clearly a typo, but I really didn’t find too many items for which the $4K price tag seemed out of place. Yes, there were some things I couldn’t live with, but that doesn’t mean their price was out of line. Okay, if I had $4K burning a hole in my pocket (I do not), I still wouldn’t spend it on a collectible, no matter how much the thing is supposedly worth. I’d much rather buy something sparkly!

I hope you have as much fun checking out these wonderful finds as I did, and thank you, thank you, thank you for all the support! ❤ ❤ ❤

1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle Card sold by BriarcliffMarket

I’m not much of a sports fan, but even I am amazed by this 1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle Card sold by BriarcliffMarket

I thought this "art" consisting of piles of junk was $4K. I was wrong. the $4K listing is for four placemat prints of the piles of junk. That's different.

I thought it was insane that this “art” consisting of piles of junk was $4K. Then I read the listing more closely. It’s actually $4K for four laminated placemat prints of piles of junk. Alrighty.

  1. I actually dreamed of a crib similar when shopping for my daughter before she was born. No way we had that kind of cash!

  3. Donna, I’d like you to have a look at an artist whose work has fascinated me for years, Phillip Singer. I’ll bet your 4000 (congrats!) closest friends will love his work, too. http://psingerart.com/. Enjoy!

  4. That crib is awesome! As for the lifelike dolls, I know someone who makes those. Do you have the link? My friend and her mom have made them for a while and many have been used on TV.

  5. As appealing as some of these items are, I am not convinced any of them truly warrant a price tag of $4K – or is it just that I cannot imagine having that amount of cash spare for a frivolous or fun purchase? Could be. Except for the baby doll because that would horrify me even if it was just $4. Judder. The most tempting item for me is the signed Al Hirschfeld print because I am a huge Al Hirschfeld fan. But I don’t even have $40 to spare right now so I guess I will have to pass up that opportunity.
