Edgar Artis
The frantic packing up of the house has begun in earnest, so this week, posts are going to be short, but I promise they’ll be sweet!
This is the joyous, delicious-looking art by Armenian illustrator and fashion designer Edgar Artis. He ingeniously combines everyday objects like food, playing cards, coins, and the like with beautifully-drawn models to create adorable, whimsical fashion art. Artis then photographs his masterpieces, then brushes the coffee grounds or confetti or matchsticks off his desk, and goes on with his day. It makes me a little sad that these lovely works are so fleeting in nature, but perhaps that’s part of their charm!

Is it wrong that I now want a dress made out of burnt matches?

These are such fun! I rather like their transitory nature because of the use of found objects (or food) and what it suggests about an inventive, spontaneously creative mind. If I wore that cheese frock, I’d be walking around naked by the end of the day and be a few pounds heavier.
