Happy anniversary to me! Today, the blog is three years old! Since February 27, 2014, I have had the joy of finding and presenting to you honeys at least one beautiful thing every single day. Who’s luckier than me?* It’s been a real privilege, and I have every intention of continuing ad infinitum.

*Yes, I know it should be “who is luckier than I am?” but that didn’t feel right.

I thought a look back at the early days was in order. Before most of you lovelies joined me, I did some posts of which I’m quite proud. Back when my followers totaled fewer than 200, very few eyes were clapped on some of my favorite things, so I’m dusting off a few faves for your entertainment (and mine).

Back before I had my blogging method and schedule figured out, sometimes, the blog snuck up on me. The resulting posts gave an intimate glimpse into what was motivating me in those early days… (guilt, mostly)

To Blog or Not to Blog

I did a fair amount of stream-of-consciousness self-reflection in those early posts, too.

You Never Forget Your First

And I always had a lot of fun finding new and interesting things to lay at the feet of my earliest readers. I was pretty successful, if I do say so myself!

World’s Biggest Paper Doll

Every Wednesday, there was music…

Five Boys From Nottingham

Sometimes, Beloved and I went on adventures, and the blog came along for the ride.

Souvenirs From Dead Whores Bay. Wait, What?

And, being me, I couldn’t resist irreverent, funny stuff, either!

Well, That Was Awkward

I even found the courage to write a few things straight from the heart, something I don’t do often enough in this space.

Stormé Weather

Looking back at some of my old posts, I realize something. While I have certainly honed my brand, while the blog has matured, and the content and the layout have improved, I think I might have lost something along the way. It was a little more rough-and-tumble, a little more personal when I first got started. I’m going to endeavor to bring back some of those rough edges.

It has been a lovely ride, and I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. You keep coming back, and I’ll keep trying to make my little patch of the internet a good place to be!

Much love,

Donna

newyork_manhattanManhattan apartment update: Today, we went to Ikea and ONLY BOUGHT WHAT WE WENT FOR. Then we went to Fairway and ONLY BOUGHT WHAT WAS ON THE LIST. Neither of those things have ever happened before. This tiny-living situation is clearly good for us!

I have committed to spending part of every day looking for at least one beautiful thing, and sharing what I find with you lovelies!

  4. I have only been here about six months, so I missed all of those early days. But, I really enjoy finding out what you have for us on a daily trip. I like some a lot more than others but even the ones that just don’t do it for me are new, fresh and interesting. I look forward to them with my morning coffee.

  5. Omg, the squirrel feeders were just the right way to start a Monday. I’m late to this party, so it was really cool to look at some of your older posts.

  9. Thank you for taking us on a trip back to your early blog-days – it gave me an excuse to pour another cup of tea and sit for a few more minutes, hearing your voice as you share with us your passions and discoveries. I admire your dedication – seven days a week! – and every morning, before I see what The World has in store for us today, I go first to your blog for a breath of fresh air. Congratulations and thanks.

I am happy to have been one of your early followers as, because I got to know your “rough-and-tumble, a little more personal” side and I read and enjoy your later posts with that soundtrack in my head. Congratulations and thank you for One Beautiful Thing in my day, every day for the last three years. Here’s to many more!
