When I first heard about photographer Andrius Burba’s Under-Cats project, I lost my mind. Unless you’re spending time laying under your coffee table watching your cats walk by (which seems pervy somehow), this is an angle from which we rarely seen felines.

Burba set up a photography area at the International Cat Show in Vilnius, Lithuania, and the results are oddly spectacular! And after the success of this first project, he started creeping around under all kinds of animals, including dogs, rabbits, and horses. HORSES. Standing on glass. Yipe!

“I knew that all I needed is to get 600 kg horse on a glass, dig 3 meters into the ground, put my camera under a big glass and take a shot. Even though it was the same concept as project “Under-Cats” it took two months to organize it all. I have found horse-friendly environment and even made rubber horse shoes, to save the glass from scratching.”

Amazing. And aren’t you proud of me that I resisted making Catherine the Great jokes?

All images property of Andrius Burba/Underlook.

The making-of Under-Cats video is pretty fun, too!

  1. Holy shmoly oddly addictive to look at. Crazy to get the horse!! The bunny ( I think that is what it is) confuses me with the eye placement. Maybe I need more coffee!

  2. Proof! Cats are adorable, dogs are friggin’ hilarious, bunnies are cuddly, and horses are stunning. At any angle. 😉

  3. So I stared at the first picture for at least 5 minutes trying to figure out what it was before reading the text. Now I’m trying to decide if this is genius or just really kinda “Wha?” The shot of the horse is great, though – love how it’s looking down through its legs.

  5. My kids are home from school today (who thought to schedule an in-service day next to what is probably going to be a snow day?) so they are looking at the screen with me (visual eavesdropping as it were). Anyway, when we reached your blog post, they were so taken with the images that they scrolled right through the post. I was wondering how on earth these images had been taken. To my mind, it looked as if the animals were all jumping and had been caught mid-leap, but then I was wondering how the bigger animals had been made to jump like that. I am sleep-deprived. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it. Anyway, it was once my kids clicked play on the video that the penny dropped and I understood the whole glass panel thing. Duh. Why did my silly mind not figure that out? Maybe because I wanted to imagine pot-bellied ponies leaping for joy on trampolines? Anyway, we LOVE this series of photographs. Thank you for sharing them with us.

  6. More creepy cool. I wonder if any of them peed on the glass during the project? Or did the splits. Yikes.
