What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Lucky Enough

“If you’re lucky enough to live on the water, you’re lucky enough.” -Irish proverb

Brenda Sunseri

They were predicting for us more winter yesterday than we have the whole rest of the season. While it wasn’t really the snowmageddon they threatened, my thoughts nonetheless turned to … summer.

Today, we’re exploring the refreshing, summery-feeling paintings of artist Brenda Sunseri. Her painting above got my attention the other day when I was looking for water-related art because I’m lonely for my bay. It’s funny how the right work of art can comfort you when you’re a little lost. Thank you, Brenda.

Her work visits locations that clearly mean something to her. There are scenes from upstate New York, from Maui and Kauai in Hawaii, from Albuquerque, New Mexico and Desert Palms in California and Florida’s Gulf Coast, from Turks and Caicos and Honduras, and many other beautiful locations, too. Sunseri gets around! I like how generous she is with her memories, and I like how comfortable they feel. There’s no stress, there’s no commercialism,  just sand and sky and people being themselves.

When I asked Sunseri for a little biographical information, her response was perfectly pithy. I include it in its entirety:

“Bio – self taught. Day job – landscape designer. Favorite subject – how light changes everything. Motto – Travel, Travel, Travel. Paint, Paint, Paint.”

Sounds like a great life!

  1. Down here in Central Florida, our temps are going to fall near 32 degrees tonight. So, I am not thinking of summer. Great post today.

  2. Got lambasted with snow here in Maine thanks to a blizzard name Stella yesterday. I thought we were past the “big snow” storms for 2017, but Mother Nature has other plans in store! Love this picture and the art of this artist, almost looks like photographs! Thanks for sharing. Peace. ~MB

  3. Beautiful paintings! Even though we are having beautiful spring weather here in Colorado, summer and sea are always welcome.

  4. Gorgeous paintings! MainelyButch, we got the same storm up here in Montreal. Seems like every March, winter just refuses to let go, and in fact packs an extra punch at us just to make its point. Sigh. But it’s a reminder that spring really isn’t far behind. It never is.
