Found the reference. The @ doesn’t get it done on WordPress. In edit mode, you need to highlight the text you want linked and click on the hyperlink icon in the tool bar. A window will pop up asking for the URL and giving you the option for the link to open in a new window. (I always, always do that. It keeps people from losing their place on your blog.)
