Today, I’m thrilled to bring to you the gorgeous panels made by stained glass master Derek Schmid.
Hand crafted using Spectrum Stained Glass made in the U.S., the panels are one-of-a-kind, and many are custom orders. And unlike other stained glass makers I’ve profiled, this company sends the panels vinyl framed, insulated, pressed between two layers of window glass, and ready to install. Their legit windows combined with Schmid’s artistry make a powerful combination!
Both the website and the Etsy shop have pages and pages of original designs which can be purchased as is or customized. And clients are encouraged to request their own designs as well.
I’ve seen plenty of talented stained glass artists, and I’ve seen quite a few decorative insulated window companies, but I don’t think I’ve ever seem the two concepts come together so beautifully.
You can see more of Schmid’s spectacular designs on the company website (stainedglasswindows.com – now that’s a URL worth some money!) and in their Etsy shop.

These are stunning! I have always had an obsession with stained glass windows. It is such a delicate yet gorgeous medium. ❤

These are wonderful. I always wanted to learn how to do this, but the cost of starting seemed so prohibitive. I love the willow tree blowing in a circle. And of course anything with birds.

I had a lesson when I was 17. I remember it being a fairly enjoyable process. Very soothing. I’m taking another lesson this spring. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Pretty pretty. So colorful!
I made one ,well sort of,for my kitchen. It is a fake but fun to paint. One of the colors fads out and that is disturbing.

I had an Etsy maker create one for my kitchen, too! Ours is real, and I love it a lot! I have a picture, but Flickr is being a jerk right now. I’ll try to remember to post it later.

Please do. Mine is just painted with Gallery Glass and certainly not worth much excepto close the space in the wall aka window.

Got it! We didn’t want to block the light, but our neighbors’ kitchen window was a bit too close.

Insulated stained glass? What a fantastic idea. Why has no one thought of doing that before. I love the peacock design, the octopus, and the sugar skull.
