Last weekend, bestie and I again braved the wilds of the West Side to attend the annual Architectural Digest Home Design Show. Though we were a little underwhelmed by the 2018 show, we came away from this year’s event thoroughly satisfied. In fact, I discovered when I got home that I had taken fewer photos than usual because we were so busy oohing and aahing!
As always, the AD Design Show is run concurrently with the DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) Dining By Design exhibition. Like the show next door, we found this year’s entries much more intriguing than we have over the last couple of years.
As is my habit, I will be writing individual posts about many of the artists and designers I came across at the show. In the meantime, some of my favorites are below. If you wish, you can see all my show photos on Flickr.

Not quite as far out as some. I love the glass and the big flowers but might be hard to converse with the folks on the other side of the table. There was atime when an arrangment in the center should be low enough to talkover. But…times change.

I think they are typically removed once the meal is being served and people are sitting down.

I never thought so, but then again I’m one of those who removes the centerpiece to make room for the food.

Ooh! Lots of lovely things. I can see why you and Beloved were so absorbed by the show. I am getting a mid-century vibe from a lot of the design elements, which obviously appeals to me. I absolutely love that horseshoe crab light. I also love that spherical cutlery canteen and the Joe Cariati glass, which reminds me very much of glass my Gran collected in the 1960s and ’70s.

Many beautiful things! And loads of new designers to profile at some point. And the Art Expo is in a couple of weeks, too. I love this time of year!

Greg and I grew up on the Jersey shore and have an aversion to horseshoe crabs. However, I love the light. I wonder how he would feel if I bought one. . .

We loose horseshoe crabs, and we regularly wade in among them. We’re always trying to save them from drying out at low tide. I think beloved would love the lamp until I told her what I paid for it….to quote the Brazilian maker, “It’th broonztthe.”
