Poking around the internet the other day, this popped up, and I was hooked! This is Nashville singer/songwriter Noah Floersch, and he perfectly represents all the things I loved best about the Nashville music scene. He’s fresh and unexpected and fits no kind of mold. His style has been called sunny indie pop, but he’s so much more. His voice and his melodies and his songs at first seem deceptively light, but there’s great hidden depths there. His music truly is so listenable, it’s easy to miss the messages he tucks in there. Floersch’s lyrics may be sweet and simple, but they ring real and true.
“Woman” by Noah Floresch
She cries like a cloud does
When She rains down on me
No cover under eyes of thunder
I wonder how She seesShe speaks like the wind does
She whispers to me
A silent secret, swift and stinging and
Steeped in honeybeesShe dances like branches
That swing on a tree
A willow swaying, spotted shadin’
Cover’s all I needShe loves like a woman
When she’s loving on me
I love that woman like a woman
Should and ought to be

I can’t put my finger on why but this music is not quite my thing despite liking both the quality of his voice and the vibe. I do, however, think that one of my sons will like his music so I am going to recommend he listen.

It feels to me like Broadway-meets-slowed-down-Jason Mraz, but I’m sorry it’s not your thing. I really like his storytelling, and I love the timber of his voice.

I am cool with things not being my thing because it means people are trying something different. You get bland and mediocre when trying to create work that appeals to the widest array of people possible. I am also not remotely a music connoisseur so no doubt a poor judge of anyone’s output.

That’s very true about what happens to music when you try to please everyone.
