Today, I’m thrilled to bring you the darling pet portraits by watercolor artist Sam Coleman, A.K.A. @Doggodrawings_. This Galway-based painter has been known to cover many subjects including people, still lifes (that phrase never looks right), landscapes, and florals, but it’s his pet paintings that most draw me in. There’s a quality to his pet portraits that I can only describe as genuine affection. It’s so clear that he really gets these animals, and they seem to understand him, too.
Coleman is happy to accept commissions, so you can send him your favorite photo and he will recreate it in painted form. I’m completely fascinated by his understanding of color. For example, when I look at a dog’s nose, I don’t see red and blue and purple, but somehow, his use of color works perfectly.
You can see all of Sam Coleman’s lovable paintings on the Sam’s Studio website and on the Doggo Drawings Instagram.
