What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Hand and Eye

Katerina Marchenko

Self-taught embroidery artist Katerina Marchenko uses hoops (and occasionally entire walls) to embroider remarkable three-dimensional-looking patterns and portraits. I find her hand and eye studies particularly compelling.

Marchenko also had a very successful collaboration with mixed-media artist Artashes Sardarian. The mashup starts with a blend of broken vintage plates, partially joined together using kintsugi, then further connected with Marchenko’s embroidery. The results are very interesting and good intentioned, too!

“From brokenness to beauty: just like these plates, even shattered souls can be mended with the gold of kindness.” Artashes Sardarian

You can follow Katerina Marchenko’s amazing work on her website and on Instagram and Etsy. You can also check out more of Artashes Sardarian’s interesting work on Instagram.

Holy moley! Pretty has its price. I’ve not seen prices like that on Etsy before. Her work is most unique, though.

Wow! I have never seen pieces like these before, neither the embroidery or the ceramic work. Once more I am blown away by the endless creativity of artistic minds. I agree with you that the hands are especially enchanting. I know how very challenging it is to draw hands and for them to even look like hands rather than a cluster of bananas or sausages (or maybe that’s just me – ha!) so to be able to embroider them with such dimension and form and delicacy is like an act of sorcery.
