Today’s marvelous artist was sent to me by the lovely, talented, and wonderfully-observant Alison & Don of Adventures in Wonderland.

You would think that sculptures made entirely of metal wouldn’t evoke warmth and emotion, but reclaimed-metal sculpturist Penny Hardy creates life-sized sculptures so full of feeling, it’s hard to imagine they’re incapable of human emotion. She then sets her emotive, movement-filled sculptures in natural settings where they should seem incongruous, but somehow they just fit right in. Isn’t human creativity a marvel? I’m particularly drawn to her Blown Away series.

“The Blown Away series is a response to the strong emotions that affect us all at key points in our lives, the physical impact they have on our bodies and the influence external or environmental forces have on all of us.”

In 2022, Hardy started a project she called Sculpture for Change. She created a marvelous sculpture and put photos of it out on social media to raise £100,000 for UNICEF. The public was invited to give the sculpture a name and a story. The winner of the contest was then gifted the sculpture.
