In the past, I have occasionally done posts about wallpaper. As previously stated, I have a complicated relationship with the stuff, having spent countless hours removing it. However, I have on occasion found some examples that I admire in spite of myself. Today’s retailer is full of exceptions to my no wallpaper rule. Welcome to the wonder that is wallism. (That’s how they print their name, all lower case followed by a period.) This Swedish company produces delicious, unique wall murals by working with a select group of designers and artists to “lead a creative revolution for walls.” They print all their papers to order, and each is customized to fit your specific wall space. No waste? Wild!
Perhaps more impressive than their customization is their consciousness of their product’s environmental impact. They use only FSC-certified papers created from sustainably-managed forests. Every single tree felled for their papers is replaced by a newly-planted tree. All their papers are certified TCF (totally chlorine free) and they are fortified using OEKO-TEX-certified materials which are 100% free of harmful substances. Their products are printed using only non-toxic toners, their production facilities use only renewable energy, and they endeavor to ship only with sustainable companies who strive to put less of a strain on our already-fragile planet. Sweden has always been way ahead of us in ecologically-sound practices, and this responsible company is a shining example of that commitment.
Now, onto design. After learning how serious the company is about sustainability and non-toxic practices, I would kind of expect their products to be a little blah. Not so. Their striking, large-format designs are what got my attention in the first place. There’s certainly something for every taste and every room. What a triumph this company is!

I might be in the market for wallpaper (for one small wall that was originally wallpapered and then painted over) and these are fabulous although too much for my tiny wall. Thanks for the nudge to start looking again.
