What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

I have often described my daily search for One Beautiful Thing as “following the breadcrumbs.” I find something interesting, which leads me to something else, which points me to some other stuff, until I come upon the magical thing I didn’t know I was looking for. This OBT is definitely one of those. When I happened to come up on the facial projection mapping video in the middle of the night a couple of days ago, it seemed like it was going to lead me down a pretty cool path, but I needed to go to sleep, so I stuck a pin in it for a few days until I had time to explore. This is where it eventually led me.

Wang Ziwon describes his mechanical works of art as “post-human Buddhist-influenced serene-steampunk sculptures.” That’s a lot of sensibilities that don’t seem to go together, but the way he combines them is completely hypnotic and beautiful and eminently creepy. I’m particularly fascinated by his interpretation of Guan Yin, which reminded me of the thousand hands Bodhisattva dance I blogged about in Hand Jive. As interesting as his works are in photos, when my search turned up a few of them in motion, I was even more taken with them.
