What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Merry Christmas, 1966 Style!

blechWhen I was a kid, American illustrator R.O. Blechman’s animated Christmas greetings used to play on CBS and a few other stations. Here are a few I can remember playing  at Christmas time. Even as a small child, I can remember being completely hypnotized by his spare lines and the way sound effects were employed to fill in the un-drawn details.

Happy Christmas, everyone!

Here’s Blechman’s famous Alka Seltzer commercial. Not very Christmasy, but it’s still his most iconic work, and very clever.

And just to bring it back to Christmas, here’s “The Lord’s Bright Blessing (and Razzleberry Dressing)” from “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol.” Enjoy!

I have committed to spending part of every day looking for at least one beautiful thing, and sharing what I find with you lovelies!

  1. Hey Lady…Getting ready to open presents on Skype with our son who is stationed at Travis AFB. Isn’t technology great (even if I can’t figure it out most of the time) ? Have a very happy and well deserved break. Merry Christmas to you and Beloved.

  2. Merry Christmas. This is a time of spreading joy…but you’ve been doing that all year through your blog and your amazing sense of style and wonderful sense of humour. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year (though, I suspect that there will be a post to comment on then as well–no pressure)

  3. Thanks so much for this, Donna. Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol was my favorite when I was growing up. I knew it by heart–in the days before VCRs, when memorization happened from watching it on TV once a year. A lovely launch back into my childhood.
Merry Christmas, Donna. Love and joy to you, today and throughout the new year.
