When it comes to 1980s music, I tend to be something of a purist. I don’t generally enjoy covers, re-imaginings, and remixes. I have such strong (and mostly happy) memories attached to this particular music that it’s hard for a new version to measure up. There are a few notable exceptions like Johnny Cash’s Personal Jesus, Michael Andrews’s Mad World, Paloma Faith’s Never Tear Us Apart, Alien Ant Farm’s Smooth Criminal, and pretty much everything by Postmodern Jukebox, but I usually find eighties covers to be kind of lazy. That is certainly not the case here.
This is Broken Peach, a cover band that incorporates visual style, choreography, and costume to create fully staged and produced performances. That’s a lot harder to pull off than just singing someone else’s music. No wonder their videos have amassed more than 26 million views!
You can check out all of Broken Army’s amazing productions on their website and on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

These performances were really fun. I generally don’t have a fondness for popular 80s music (New Romantics – blech) but these three songs are all ones I liked then and still enjoy now. I will need to click on the links to discover whether this group happens to align with my musical taste or whether it is your curation that aligns.

Might be a bit of both…
