The waterside town of Annecy, France, located on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, is just 22 miles from Geneva, Switzerland. It has been referred to alternatively as the Pearl of the French Alps and the Venice of the Alps, and it’s just glorious. It is the annual host of an international animated film festival, and has also periodically been part of the Tour de France bicycle race It’s moved way up on my list of places I must visit.

The town is the former capital of the Duchy of Geneva, and only became part of France in 1860. The culture there is reported to be a lovely blend of Alpine and French. Originally serving as a protective moat for the old city, Annecy’s waterways eventually went through an industrial-intensive phase, but has since been reclaimed to form the gorgeous tourist area for which Annecy is famous.

There are a number of visitor accommodations available in the town, but the most notable is the Impreial Palace, which has been visited by many famous people including Winston Churchill, Edith Piaf, and Charlie Chaplin. I hope you enjoy the views of this gorgeous French waterside town as much as I have. Oh, Beloved, it’s time to plan our next trip…

You can learn more about the city of Annecy on the About France Annecy page.

Nobody can blame you for missing a day after all you have done. I enjoyed the trip to Italy. Would love to visit one day. Hal
