I have long thought that the Bronx Zoo is a wonder. I confess we get there rarely, and usually only in conjunction with the annual orchid show. I clearly haven’t spent enough time exploring the zoo, because it took Instagram to introduce me to this particular unique attraction. Today, we’re checking out the Bug Carousel, and I can’t believe it’s the first time I’m hearing of it!
The ride opened in 2005, and features 64 different insects, all hand carved from wood. The carousel’s music was composed using real insect sounds captured by the Wildlife Conservation Society, the organization that runs the zoo. The ride is (manual) wheelchair accessible, and the price of standard admission to the zoo includes unlimited rides on the carousel. It’s even open year round! ROAD TRIP….
You can follow the Bronx Zoo on their website and on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

As a fan of minibeasts, I am completely charmed by this carousel. It also immediately makes me think of ‘James and the Giant Peach’. I have never visited the Bronx Zoo (it’s got to be well over 20 years since I even set foot in the Bronx) so I am adding it to my NY bucket list.
