*(So Much Better Than Regular Fruit)

9/13/16: A lovely young singer I know posted this video on Facebook, and I was completely enthralled. This is Superfruit, a subset of the singers from Pentatonix, perhaps the best-know a capella group in the world right now. Today’s song also features vocals by Mary Lambert, the lovely singer in Mackelmore’s “Same Love” anthem from 2012.

This is a cover of “Rise,”a Katy Perry song with which I was not especially familiar. Perry’s version is very good, but in terms of sheer emotional impact, it can’t hold a candle to the cover. The original is very slick, and I think the slight over-producing reduces the song’s effectiveness.
