I first spotted one of Kate Schroeder’s ceramic mini malm stove incense burners in a client’s apartment, and I fell completely in love! Once I found the artist’s website and social media, I was hopelessly hooked. The artist discovered her love for ceramics in high school, but once she started in art college, she also discovered how much she loved sculpture. After pursuing a double-major degree in both art forms, it seemed logical for her to put her two loves together with her fondness for architecture and nostalgia.
Many of the little objects in Schroeder’s works refer to someone in her life, the books for her avid-reader husband, the succulents for her botanist grandmother, the flowers for her florist mother. Her mid-century modern sensibilities reflect that of her family home and the good days she remembers there. I guess that’s why her work gives me such a feeling of welcome. (Plus, they’re positively adorable!)
You can follow Kate Schroeder Ceramics on her website and on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

You chose the perfect adjective as these pieces truly are marvelous! You know I share your love of mini things so these were always going to be up my street but I also like that they are ceramic, a less usual medium for miniatures, and I also like the cozy vibe and the MCM aesthetic of her style. I am going to give her a follow on Instagram so I can keep golluming.

You and I need mansions to fill. For a little while, I toyed with the idea of doing interior design JUST SO I COULD JUSTIFY BUYING DELICIOUS IMPRACTICAL THINGS. Not the best motivation for a career change…

You would be so good at that! Maybe not for minimalists but definitely for people looking for interesting pieces.
