The Army, The Navy

The American folk singer/songwriter duo Maria Ciambriello and Sasha Goldberg, A.K.A. The Army, The Navy, first bonded when they were studying with the same singing coach as children. They then moved together to New Orleans just in time to get stuck indoors together during COVID. The pandemic did great things for their music, giving them nothing but time to write and rehearse and perfect their unique sound. While quarantine ended or at least strained many roommate relationships, Ciambriello and Goldberg’s flourished, as did their genuine, emotional, sincere, and utterly charming music.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know how obsessed I am with good harmony, and these two have got it down. Their voices blend gorgeously in truly unexpected intervals. The way their harmonies weave around each other sounds like a miracle. They feel like singers’ singers. Watching them feels like witnessing something private and very sweet. It’s so thrilling to catch them near the beginning of their career. I’m absolutely convinced they’re going to go far!
