Sébastien Preschoux

This awesome artist was sent to me by Alison & Don of Adventures in Wonderland.

Today, we get to explore the marvelous optical and kinetic art by perfectionist Sébastien Preschoux. The artist apparently relishes in taking his time, making sure each line is created with insane precision. His resulting works look so perfect, they seem computer generated or at least enhanced, but in fact his work is typically either ink or acrylic on canvas (with a whole lot of measuring).

“To watch Sébastien Preschoux work is to accept to oscillate between the serenity of a work that can be built without haste and the tension of an infinitely precise, gracefully measured gesture, drastically governed by a process of measurement and counting. The work stretches out over time, punctuated by the repeated gesture of handling the ruler and then the compass. Without impatience, Sébastien PRESCHOUX unfolds the movement of the drawing in time, letting the material unfold in space.”

In addition to his more standard-sized canvases, Preschoux has also been known to work on a very grand scale. His murals are executed with the same precision and care that his smaller pieces are, and he sometimes incorporates colored string as well. In fact, he did a mind-blowing installation of colored string for Audi in honor of the launch of their R8 that measures an impressive 33’x18, and it’s every bit as spectacular as it sounds. (See the first and second photo below.)

You can learn more about the amazing Sébastien Preschoux on his website and on Instagram.
