While doing my research for my music week posts, this video popped up in my feed. Even though I already had 5 musical artists ready to go, I clicked on it because I clearly needed to know what a lullaby about dying would sound like. Unfortunately, this is just a snippet, but it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. One of the other musical artists scheduled to go up this week got booted and the lovely, country singer Cam took their place.
Her voice is glorious, and her original songs are remarkably moving, but what really drew me in was her vulnerability. Cam can make me cry, and that’s not a usual occurrence when it comes to music from a stranger. Happily, the artist says she will be releasing a longer version on Meet You By the River soon, and in the meantime, she’s got plenty of other music we can enjoy.
“At a time when she desperately needed a guiding light in the dark, Cam lit her own way with a wild journey inward. While dealing with the intense isolation of becoming a mother in the early days of the pandemic, the Nashville-based artist started writing songs as a means of finding solace, and soon unlocked an entirely new level of depth in her lyrics. As her daughter Lucy grew older and began asking questions about life and death, Cam felt called to dig even deeper and create a body of work embedded with insights for Lucy to carry with her through the years.”
– About Cam
Cam’s voice has been compared to the iconic Patsy Cline, and that comparison is especially evident in the second video below, Slow Down. I was also thrilled to learn that she wrote five of the tracks on Beyonce’s Grammy-winning Cowboy Carter album. This girl truly has all the gifts!
You can follow Cam on her website and on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

I’m a sucker for a good tear jerker. But I only listened to the first one because my eyes are leaking too much. “Shall we gather by the river” is a hymn that is special to my family. This one is so relatable to me. I’m hoping it’s true and they’re waiting for us by the river.

I love her voice and definitely hear the Patsy Cline reference. And who knew there would ever be a song that mentions the energizer bunny? The lullaby was sweet but I was definitely startled to see her singing it to Lucy on stage.
