Mon Rovîa

Afro Appalachian folk artist Mon Rovîa started life in another world. He was born in war-torn Liberia, then adopted by Christian missionaries and taken back to the US. His parents were very, very religious, so while he traveled the US with his family, he was almost completely shielded from American pop culture. The older he got, the more he thought about his unusual origins, about being brought up black in a white family, and about his home country of Liberia. As he entered adulthood, the artist knew he needed to broaden his musical horizons. He set about to learn more about current popular music PLUS all the genres and earlier incarnations of music on which he could get his hands. After taking in some of everything, this sensitive, creative young man began to write his own music. Rather than catching the latest popular music wave, he brought his appreciation of all the music styles and vintages that he had absorbed to create his own interpretation of Afro Appalachian folk. As you can imagine, Rovîa doesn’t sound like anyone else, and I’m here for it! I can’t wait to see what new things this exciting artist produces.

You can follow the lovely Mon Rovîa on his website and on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Spotify, and Facebook.

I’ve listened to him a bit (he is heavily marketed in my social media feeds).I find his music gentle and uplifting. From the comments on Rust: “It feels like a warm hug and a cup of tea by the fireplace in winter.”
