About a year ago, I did a profile on the magnificent ceramic beetles by artist Charlie Moon. This year, she’s up to something completely different. Using a combination of AI, digital art, and traditional techniques, the Dutch artist creates gorgeous new creatures and worlds. Mostly her work begins on the computer, but they are then sold as fine art prints. Some of her works – like last year’s fancy bugs – have been turned into IRL objects using 3D printing and hand painting.
I think her work is complex and lovely. Moon says her main sources of inspiration are nature and animals and Medieval art, and I think they way she combines those elements is nothing short of magic (though on a potentially sadistic level, I do still kind of wish someone would paint such complex elements on an actual leaf…).
You can follow Charlie Moon Studio on her website and on Instagram, and Facebook.

They’re like tiny (virtual) masterpieces! I love that one, too.

These are all very pretty and unlike anything I have seen before. My preference would still be for beetles but the leaf shapes are pleasing too.

Same, but I definitely wouldn’t kick the leaves out of bed…
