Chinese illustrator Oamul Lu creates fresh, happy, thoroughly lovable GIF animations, perfectly suited to a Friday!  I wasn’t able to find out very much about him, but his website is beautiful and chock-full of lovely discoveries, as is his tumblr.

I can’t explain what about his work is so touching, but after looking at it all, I feel like I know him a bit (and like him a lot!). In every picture I’ve found of him, he looks very serious, but his art is so full of joy. Our grandson went through a phase where he would, with a very serious face, tell you a joke, then watch closely for your reaction. It was adorable, and Oamul Lu’s serious little face reminds me of Danny’s joke face.

His work (Lu’s, not Danny’s) is putting me in mind of Pascal Campion, who I blogged about in August in the post “3000 Works of Heart,” but Lu’s work seems a little younger, a little more child like. His art makes me want to learn how to make GIFs. (I’ll just add that to the list of ten thousand things I still want to learn to do . . . ) Below the GIFs are a few of his equally lovely paintings.
