“To dream of mushrooms denotes fleeting happiness, to dream you are gathering them, fickleness in a lover or consort.” -Richard Folkard in Plant Lore (1884)
NSW photographer, Steve Axford, travels the world to capture beauty the rest of us often overlook. Through his (I’m assuming really big) lens, we are introduced to this beautiful, tiny world of funghi. I never could have imagined some of these species existed outside children’s books. They are truly works of art.
If you like these, I recommend you check out his Flickr account which has hundreds of his funghi photos, plus his equally wonderful (but less bizarre) wildlife and scenic photography.

Okay, I might have doctored this photo of Anthracophyllum Archeri just a teensy bit. ©Steve Axford

A beautiful and interesting look into the photography of Steve Axford. His photos are surreal and fantastical. I really enjoyed your use of them in your OBT. Your comments are smart and on point, bringing a smile or a laugh as I enjoyed each part of “Shrooms, Anyone?”

Amazing! They look like aliens. I laughed out loud at your doctored Anthracophyllum Archeri. Very fitting edit 🙂
