Otherwise known as Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde (you can see why she shortened it), the U.K. singer/songwriter Birdy burst on the European stage at the age of 12 when she won the Open Mic U.K. contest in 2008. She’s been recording ever since. Heavily influenced by her concert pianist mother, she reportedly started writing music at the age of 8. Precocious little thing, wasn’t she?
She was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 (at the age of 16) for “Learn Me Right,” a song she wrote and sang with Mumford & Sons for Disney’s “Brave.” This kid is unbelievable!
As lovely as the acoustic version of that song is, I thought you might be interested in watching the very well made, deliciously spooky music video, too.
And her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” was just too wonderful not to share.

All her music is very listenable. I’ve been on a Birdy kick this week, and it’s been a delight!
