I first happened on We Were Evergreen when their Mahogany Session autoplayed after something I was half listening to on YouTube. I mayn’t have been paying close attention to the video before, but these fresh-faced musicians stopped me dead in my tracks. There they were, three appealingly happy-looking young people, shivering in a cemetery (and looking like they could all use a hot cocoa), making music I wanted to hear more of. In the first recording I heard, their voices were accompanied only by a ukulele, a small guitar, a toy piano, and a very small xylophone, but it was so rich and lovely, I had to go looking for more.
The Parisian trio have been making beautiful music together since they were literature students together in 2008. They moved to London in 2011, and their debut album, “Towards,” was released in May of 2014.
I love a good cover, and I thought their interpretation of Burt Bacharach’s “Walk On By” (made famous by Dionne Warwick) was especially enjoyable. (These people are real wizards with a xylophone!)
And although I like them best unplugged and acoustic, I wanted you to see a couple of their adorable music videos, too.
Finally, I wanted to share their wonderful cover of “Be Like You” from Disney’s “Jungle Book.” So cute!
