Ray Jones
Ray Jones makes truly unique, one-of-a-kind boxes made entirely of wood. Even the hinges, fasteners, and drawer slides are handmade and then the boxes are covered in exotic, highly-detailed veneers.
Originally trained as an aerospace engineer, Jones spent his college summers working in construction, a job he says “gave me a lot of confidence working with my hands.” When he graduated and rented his first house, instead of buying furniture, Jones chose to purchase woodworking tools and then make his own furniture.
While he was courting his wife, he made her a keepsake box and realized that was the form he was meant to pursue. He abandoned all other projects and began focusing on boxes. He has certainly perfected his art. These boxes are truly a thing of beauty.

I want them all! I actually have a little wooden set of drawers made from one chunk of wood but it is definitely more rustic and less engineered. These are exquisite. I love the ones where the drawers/trays in the doors interlace with those inside the box.

I do, too. The designs are so creative and unexpected. I’d love to see them in person!

They are beautiful. My only problem is they would outclass most of the stuff in my house. Maybe if I bought a Smeg toaster or something, the juxtaposition wouldn’t be that harsh.
Thanks for sharing these….I am guessing that the price is quite dear for one of these things. They are so beautiful though.

The one at the top is $4,500. The rest are somewhat less (though not enough less for me to be able to buy one . . .) His work is certainly worth it. Why do so many beautiful things have to be so expensive?

I guess we have to consider how many hours that must take…from design to construction. However…I wish it weren’t so.
