Jenny Ayrton

Jenny Ayrton creates miniature wonderlands between layers of molten glass. Based in Devon, England, Ayrton goes about her days with her young daughters, finding inspiration in the mundane, invisible, and over-familiar, scenes we unconsciously walk past every day. She takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. But before you look at any more of her work, watch this video of her explaining her method. There are so many more subtleties to her pieces than I originally noticed!

Somewhat simplistic and perhaps even a bit childlike, her work feels fresh and new and charming. I think I would have been completely obsessed with it as a child. I can imagine myself spending loads of time imagining a life inside Ayrton’s tiny frozen worlds.

These are so cool! I feel like I deserve one of the little laundry pieces given that laundry is a feature of every flipping day of my life.

These might be some of my favorite glass works you’ve found. The video of how she makes them is fantastic. I’m looking seriously at that shop.

Aren’t they incredible? I’m really impressed with her process. There was so much to it that I never could have guessed at without watching the video. It has reminded me how important it is to try and find videos of the artist in action when doing my research.

These are truly delightful. I would have been enchanted by them when I was a child, too.
