What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Lebanese Lionesses

Mayyas

Today, I’m thrilled to bring you a gorgeous Lebanon-based alternative dance group known as Mayyas. The Arabic name translates to “The proud walk of a lioness,” and I absolutely see why they chose it. These women are FIERCE. As one viewer commented, when cinematography, choreography, dancers, and direction all come together the results are simply stunning. The group is the brainchild of choreographer/director Nadim Cherfan, who has been teaching and choreographing for more than 20 years. He studied in London, India, and the US, and all those influences merge with his Lebanese roots to make an amazing updated bellydance experience.

Unfortunately, the owner disabled embedding of the first video I watched, but I strongly, STRONGLY recommend you click on the link below to watch this gorgeous performance.

Mayyas first appeared on Arabs Got Talent, where they caught the attention of Simon Cowell. His encouragement convinced the group to enter America’s Got Talent‘s 2022-23 season, in which they took the top prize. The group was then invited to perform alongside Beyonce at the opening of The Royal Hotel in Dubai.

You can follow Nadim Cherfan and Mayyas on YouTube and Instagram.

You know I am a sucker for that type of Busby Berkeley kaleidoscopic choreography and this dance group are exceptionally good at it. I love the way they incorporate their accessories like the feathers and red sparkly finger pieces.
