Today’s artist is making me look at surfaces differently. These are the amazing, tiny, 3D-looking works by painter Golsa Golchini. The artist sometimes paints on canvas, though she regularly runs over the edges to incorporate the mat, frame, and even the next frame over. But she’s just as likely to find an unexpected reclaimed surface – the side of a bottle, a used piece of cardboard, an old sponge, or the side of a row of discarded books – on which to create her remarkable art. Golchini’s generous use of impasto (thick, architectural swipes of paint) in combination with her entirely-real-looking shadows make for art that I keep needing to go back to for another look.
You can follow the remarkable Golsa Golchini on her website and on Instagram and TikTok.

Such interesting use of materials, too. I especially love the giraffe who appears to be eating the cardboard on which he’s painted. What a great idea!

I have a giraffe-obsessed friend (whose birthday is today!), and I so wish I could get the original for her.
