Beloved and I have long talked about scoring an empty lot on our little fishing island. We’re not allowed to build on most of the empty lots in the area, but you can install movable structures that don’t have a permanent plumbing or electrical hookup. I was thinking about a rolling gypsy caravan-style structure, but those need to be shipped in, and they’re kind of expensive. Enter Bunkies. The Canadian company that designs them describes a Bunkie as “a modular small cabin kit that can be easily built in a weekend without special tools (or a second mortgage).” The adorable structures have been featured on HGTV and many Canadian DIY house and home shows as well.
“So you never got over your obsession with Lincoln Logs… Bunkie Life can help you.”
Bunkie Life has a number of different designs (including an outhouse model), and the tour videos are adorably hosted by Owner David Fraser, who is usually too cold to speak clearly. There are plenty of installation how-to videos, information about potential add-ons, and tons of other great content on their channel. They even periodically do a free giveaway contest!
You can explore Bunkies on the Bunkie Life website and on Instagram and YouTube.

Thanks for including the final video because it answered the question that kept pressing to the front of my mind when viewing the other videos. I think these look really accessible. I would be coveting a wee one to have as an art space and reading nook but, alas, our property slopes out back and front.

You could build a level foundation on a slope. Look at the image at the top of the post!

We’ve 99% talked ourselves out of buying the lot next door (thanks a lot, investment advisor…), but it’s still fun to daydream about.

Thanks, David! I’m so glad you liked it! Hope I got everything right. Sometimes when I get stressed out, I watch your videos and daydream about the day I have a place to put a Bunkie…

Well that’s interesting because when I get stressed out (mostly from crazies on facebook leaving ridiculous comments) I read nice blogs like yours and daydream about a more civilized world 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to respond to me,
David
