Every year, the village of Newburgh in Fife County, Scotland, displays Christmas decorations that include lights based on children’s drawings. Every year, they name a new winner, whose light is displayed alongside the past years’ winners. What a lovely idea!
The lucky children growing up in Newburgh didn’t even realize it was a unique tradition. They thought every town had lights like theirs. What a wonderful tradition! Maybe every town should give it a try!

What a wonderful idea! Imagine a child seeing their drawing up in lights?! Kudos to the powers that be in this town.

It makes me so happy! I read an article from a local paper that interviewed a 19-year-old who was one of the first winners. She said she makes sure she comes home early for the holidays just because seeing her drawing in lights still gives her such a thrill.

My parents live about 20 minutes away from Newburgh and they have gone a few times to see the Christmas lights. I really think more places need to jump on having kids design things for them.

That’s so cool! I’d love to see them in person.
