Today, we’re checking out the piano wizardry of Levi Schechtmann, A.K.A. Levi.sct. This 27-year-old German artist is positively blowing me away with his musicality and his amazing facility at fusing classical music with jazz and salsa and hip hop and other contemporary sounds, but something is bothering me. His performances, while giving the audience joy, seem a little joyless. Schechtmann doesn’t react to the music in the way I would expect. He doesn’t seem to be having any fun. I suppose he’s concentrating, but if I were this good at anything, you can bet I’d be leaping with glee all over the place. Maybe he’s just that German. Either way, his performances truly need to be watched to be believed.
