Devon Byerley, A.K.A. Sugarcat Cookies is a baker and food artist whose work is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Her cookies like like real art, and as big a fan of cookies as I am, I honestly don’t think I could bring myself to eat them. They’re that gorgeous. And maybe Byerley’s cookies are such unexpected works of art because she came at the art form as an amateur looking for a method of self-soothing through the pandemic.

It was the end of summer 2020. A couple of months before, I’d seen a Facebook ad for live cookie classes with @howtocakeit. 2020 was a bit of a weird year, and I was on the lookout for something to take my mind off all the fear and uncertainty. I could never have guessed at the wonderful community I’d find in the cookie world… In 2022, I was floored when I was asked to become a teacher for How to Cake It, Joining the ranks of incredibly talented artists who helped me learn the skills I was now teaching.”
